Eastern Iowa woman charged with leaving kids home alone

February 4, 2008 By admin

An eastern Iowa woman was arrested this weekend for leaving her five kids at home alone while she drank at a neighbor’s house. Twenty-eight year old Sybrina Kelly of Iowa City is charged with child endangerment. Police say Kelly’s 9 year old child called police at 3 a.m. Saturday.

Officers found Kelly at a neighbor’s home and her blood alcohol level was 0.267. The state’s legal limit to operate a vehicle is .08. Police say Kelly left her five children, ages 9, 6, 4, 1, and 7 months, by themselves in an apartment. Kelly was held overnight in the Johnson County Jail.
