Followers of transcendental meditation held a service to celebrate the life of their leader of the southeast Iowa town of Fairfield last night. Just three weeks after announcing he would be "retiring into silence and closing his designed duty," Maharishi Mahesh Yogi died at age 91 in the Netherlands.
It was over 50 years ago that he introduced his Transcendental Meditation to the world. Maharishi founded thousands of highly successful schools, colleges, and universities as well as medical centers and health clinics throughout the world. He founded Maharishi University on Management in Fairfield in the mid-70s.
