A former state trooper who was fired after being charged with sexually abusing a relative has been charged with receiving child pornography. Forty-year-old Karl Kluender was fired as a state trooper in April of 2005 after allegations from a niece that he had sexually abused her in 1993. Kleunder was living in Huxley at the time and eventually agreed to plea to a lesser charge of indecent contact with a child.

Kleunder avoided jail time and was put on two years probation. He was also ordered to complete a sex offender treatment program, and register as a convicted sex offender. The U.S. Marshals’ Service now says Kluender has been indicted on charges of possession and receipt of child pornography.

The indictment says Kleunder’s probation officer located pornographic images of children on Kleunder’s computers as part of a routine probation home check in June of 2007. Kleunder was arrested at his Ames home on the new charges.
