State wrestling tournament underway

February 13, 2008 By admin

The state wrestling tournament is underway in Des Moines with Class 1-A on the mats this afternoon. Don Bosco (Gilbertville) is favored to win their third straight team title. The Dons have 12 qualifiers, including 125 pounder Bart Reiter.

"We talk like the way our potential is…go out there and win every match we wrestle," Reiter said after winning his first round match. "It doesn’t always work out like that, but that’s how we see it and that’s how we try to wrestle." Reiter scored a 9-1 major decision over Todd Hahn of Highland Riverside.

"I was looking to do better…get a fall or a (technical fall), but a win’s a win," Reiter said. Reiter, who is a junior this season, is one of four wrestlers in the tournament going after their 3rd state championship. Class 2A first round matches are tonight, 3A tomorrow.
