Coon Rapids man dies in accident

February 14, 2008 By admin

A west-central Iowa man died in a two-vehicle crash near his rural home Wednesday afternoon. The Iowa State Patrol says 73-year-old Jerome Wiskus, of Coon Rapids, was killed and an Atlantic man injured during a collision between a car and a straight truck in northwestern Guthrie County.

The accident at 175th Street and Fir Avenue occurred at around 12:30 P.M., when the Chevy Lumina Wiskus was driving turned in front of the truck driven by 23-year-old Matthew Hollinrake. Officials say Hollinrake tried to avoid the collision, but his truck struck the front end of the car and pushed the vehicle into the northeast ditch.

Wiskus was pronounced dead at the scene. Hollinrake was taken to the Audubon County Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
