Drake loses for first time in 21 games

February 14, 2008 By admin

Drake’s winning streak is over at 21. Leonard Houston missed a three pointer as time expired as the 14th ranked Bulldogs lost at Southern Illinois 65-62, their first loss in Missouri Valley Conference action after opening 13-0.

Drake coach Keno Davis on his post game show on KRNT says they were shell shocked by the physical play in the first few minutes, but then played much better. Davis says they had their chances, but it didn’t work out in the last minute. Josh Young led the Bulldogs with 17 points as they fall to 22-2 on the season.

Davis says he was proud of the team’s effort as they tried to execute the game plan, it just didn’t work out. The Bulldogs will need to do something they have not had to do much this season and that’s bounce back from a loss. Davis says this has been an amazing season and they can’t let the loss sit too long and just have to come back and try to be better. Davis says their goal is to be playing their best basketball at the tournament in St. Louis, and the loss doesn’t keep them from doing that.

The Bulldogs visit UNI on Saturday.
