Teen shot to death in Des Moines, two sought as material witnesses

Jerry Winfrey is one of two people sought in connection with  a fatal shooting in Des Moines Des Moines police say two teenagers were shot early Sunday as they rode in a car through the capitol city — and one of them has died.

 Police say 18-year-old Richard Lewis of Des Moines was killed by the gunshots, while his friend, 18-year-old Damont Jackson, of Chicago, was hit in the leg and had to undergo surgery. He’s expected to recover.

The shootings happened about 2:40 Sunday morning near downtown Des Moines. The motive is still unknown. Police are looking for two men as material witnesses in the case.

They are: 22-year-old Jerrid Winfrey of Des Moines and 37-year-old Dorian Mosely of Fort Dodge. Neither of the men is described by police as a suspect in the shootings.
