Harkin says race against King would be "fun"

March 6, 2008 By admin

Iowa Congressman Steve King is planning to make a political announcement on Friday. There’s speculation the Republican from Kiron plans to run for U.S. Senate in hopes of winning the seat now held by Democrat Tom Harkin. When asked about the potential matchup, Harkin says King would be a "worthy" opponent.

Harkin says: "That’d be fun. (He laughs.) It’d be interesting too. We’ll see what happens." When pressed, Harkin told reporters in a conference call this (Thursday) morning that he was privy to no behind-the-scenes information about King’s plans.

Harkin says: "No, it’s been talked about in the past that he might seek this Senate seat but, let me tell you something you’ll find shocking: he has not confided in me (laughter) so I just don’t know what he’s going to do."
