Teens face felony charges in destruction of Clay County mailboxes

An investigation into a rash of destroyed mailboxes in Clay County has led to state and federal felony charges being filed against five juveniles. Clay County Sheriff Randy Krukow says that 15-year-old Justin Titus, 17-year-olds Shawn Molitor, Ryan Hoffman, and Alan Japenga of Ruthven, as well as 15-year-old Chan Wei Li of Ayrshire have each been charged with 17 federal felony counts of destruction of a letter box and 7 state felony counts of destruction of a letter box with an explosive device.

The five juveniles were taken into custody at 8:00 Saturday night, cited into Juvenile Court, processed into Clay County Jail and released to their parents or guardian.Over 110 miles of County roads were checked in addition to over 1,200 mailboxes being inspected. Krukow says that the State Fire Marshal has deemed all area mailboxes safe.
