Three UNI starters from past season charged with rioting

March 10, 2008 By admin

Two current UNI football players and one former player are facing rioting charges after police responded to a series of fights at a Cedar Falls rental hall.

Defensive backs Darrell Lloyd and Adam Roberts were taken into custody early Sunday morning. Also arrested was Brandon Keith, an offensive tackle who has used up his eligibility. All three started for the Panthers last season.

Police were called to the Main Event Center in Cedar Falls where a party hosted by UNI students was wrapping up around 2 a.m. Sunday. Authorities from several agencies responded to numerous fights in progress — both inside and outside the facility. Police say officers tried to disperse the crowds, but several people refused to leave.

Authorities then arrested Lloyd, Roberts and Keith on rioting charges. Police say one person, whom they didn’t name, charged at officers inside the facility and a taser was deployed. The other two men were arrested outside in the parking lot. Two Cedar Falls police officers were injured during the disturbance, which remains under investigation.
