Teen behind UNI lockdown is formally charged

March 12, 2008 By admin

Todd Younk is charged with first-degree harrassment Polk County authorities have charged an 18-year-old high school student with making threats that forced a lock-down on the University of Northern Iowa campus in Cedar Falls.

Todd Younk of Windsor Heights is charged with first-degree harassment in connection with the incident. Younk made his initial court appearance in Des Moines Wednesday morning.

The Des Moines Roosevelt High School senior was taken into custody Tuesday night. He’s accused of sending threatening messages by text and phone calls to a female student at UNI late Tuesday afternoon. Police say those messages indicated that Younk was coming to campus with a weapon.

That threat forced the lockdown of Dancer Hall for about two hours.  UNI’s other residence halls were later locked down for a shorter time. Younk remains in the Polk County jail on $10,000 bond. He faces up to two years in prison and a $5,000 fine If convicted of the harassment charge. The trial date has yet to be set.
