Six people hurt when SUV slams Cedar Rapids YMCA

March 18, 2008 By admin

Going to a health club in Cedar Rapids could be hazardous to your health.

Six people were hurt about 9-15 last night when an S-U-V crashed through the front doors and just inside the Stoney Point Y-M-C-A in Cedar Rapids.

Police say the driver was distracted as she was trying to park the Nissan and hit the gas instead of the brakes, sending the vehicle lurching ahead and sending people screaming. Three men, two women and a three-year-old boy were hurt inside the Y, either by the S-U-V or by flying debris. Their injuries are said to be relatively minor.

Authorities say the driver, 28-year-old Stacey Hanley of Cedar Rapids, has not been charged, though the case is still under investigation.
