March 22, 2008 By admin

Drake’s first NCAA Tournament game since 1971 ended Friday with a buzzer-beating three-point shot by Western Kentucky as the Bulldogs fell 101-99 in the opening round of the West Region in Tampa.

The Bulldogs took a one-point, 99-98,  lead on a Jonathan Cox free throw with 5.7 seconds remaining in the overtime, before Western Kentucky’s Ty Rogers hit the winning bucket.

The Bulldogs fought back from a 16-point halftime deficit to force the overtime. Cox finished the game with a career-high 29 points and 16 rebounds. The loss ended Drake’s storybook season at 28-5.
