One dead in Clinton apartment fire

March 24, 2008 By admin

The investigation into a death in an apartment fire in Clinton is continuing. The fire department was dispatched at about 9 o’clock Sunday morning to two story-three unit apartment building and found smoke and fire venting from the front door and adjacent windows of the first floor apartment.

In a primary search, one victim was located in the downstairs apartment. The victim’s identity has not been released yet. The searches of the two adjoining apartments found fire damage, but no occupants.

The smoke detectors were operating in those two upstairs apartments, but not in the apartment where the fatality was located. The incident remains under investigation by the Clinton Fire Marshal, Clinton Police and Clinton County Medical Examiner along with the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
