Iowa man dies from injuries suffered in Iraq

April 4, 2008 By admin

A young man from northeast Iowa, who was wounded last year while serving in Iraq, has died. Marine Corporal Cody Wanken died Wednesday in San Diego. The 20 year old from Hampton suffered serious facial injuries last September while with his unit in Fallujah.

The Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier reports that Wanken’s family said his death was related to those injuries received in Iraq. Wanken was a 2006 graduate of Hampton-Dumont High School. He is the 66th person with Iowa ties to die in Iraq or Afghanistan since March of 2003.
