Named released in fatal bike accident in O’Brien County

Authorities in northwest Iowa have released the name of the man who was hit and killed while bike riding over the weekend. The victim has been identified as 56-year-old Randy Van Zee. of Sheldon. VanZee was killed Friday evening while riding his bicycle on an O’Brien County Road near Sanborn.

According to an Iowa State Patrol report, a car driven by 21-year-old Sarah Johnson of Archer was westbound on O’Brien County Road B-14 and struck Van Zee from behind. The accident remains under investigation by the O’Brien County Sheriff’s Department, Sanborn Police and the Iowa State Patrol.
