While some might question how much work is getting done at the state capitol, there is a lot of work going on nearby. The Iowa Bankers Association has joined with the Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity chapter to build a home on the grounds of the capitol building. The chairman of the Iowa Bankers Association Board of Directors, Jim Shipper, says this is the fourth year they’ve build a home.

Shipper says it’s the third year they’ve built it on the capitol grounds and they call it "Home by the Dome." He says bankers from many cities are helping out. Shipper, the president of the American State Bank in Osceola, says they hope to have the home completed by next Monday.

The home is on girders and will be moved to a permanent site once it is completed. Schipper says the Des Moines family that will live in the home is also helping build it as part of the "sweat equity" they are putting into the project. Randy and Maria Wallace and their three children will move into the home once it is complete.
