Former Congressman Dave Nagle arrested again for drunk driving

April 11, 2008 By admin

Former Iowa Congressman Dave Nagle was arrested Thursday on a charge of second-offense drunken driving. The Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Department says Nagle was stopped near his home, arrested and then released from jail after posting bond.

Nagle was first elected to Congress in 1986 and then lost his bid for re-election in 1992. Nagle ran against Republican Senator Charles Grassley in 1998, but pulled out of the race after being arrested for public intoxication. Nagle at the time said he was a recovering alcoholic.

Nagle was previously arrested for drunken driving in 1997. He also pleaded guilty to drunken driving in 1985, but because that case was so long ago, the latest arrest is considered a second offense. Nagle later served as chairman of the Iowa Democratic Party and continues to practice law in Waterloo.
