Keno Davis heading back East to Providence

April 15, 2008 By admin

Drake coach Keno Davis (right) with Adam Emmenecker prior to the NCAA tournament. Published reports in several national media outlets report that Drake basketball coach Keno Davis will leave after one year to take the top job at Providence.

The 36-year-old Davis led the Bulldogs to a 28-5 record, MVC regular and tournament titles, and an NCAA bid in his first year.

It was the first Drake NCAA tourney bid since 1971. Davis took over this season from his dad Tom, who guided Drake to its first winning season in 20 years. Drake has not confirmed the move by Davis, but the Providence website is already inviting basketball fans to “Meet the New head coach of the Friars” tonight.
