Hampton glass company closing

April 18, 2008 By admin

AGC Flat Glass North America has announced it will be closing a plant in Hampton, Iowa. Franklin County Economic Development Director Karen Mitchell says the plant, which opened in the late 1990s, is expected to close this Fall.

Mitchell says the Hampton plant closing is part of an overall restructuring effort by AGC. Two other facilities in California and Quebec, and a production line in Tennessee, will also be shut down.

The closings will affect 800 employees overall, including 60 in Hampton. AGC in Hampton applies specialized chemical coatings to glass used in residential and commercial construction. AGC Flat Glass North America is headquartered in Alpharetta, Georgia.
