About a year from now, the city hall in the southwest Iowa town of Carter Lake will triple in size. Local sales taxes will pay for the three-million-dollar renovation project which city leaders say is just one part of the town’s make-over.

Mayor Russell Kramer says it’s long overdue. He says it’s pretty exciting since the original building was put up by the W-P-A in 1937. Among the many changes, Mayor Kramer says he’ll have a new office and the police department will have more space.

Kramer says, "We were just all on top of each other. Mostly, the police department and the city clerk’s office were tremendously crowded." An official ground breaking ceremony was held in Carter Lake a few days ago. Kramer says the additional space is needed to accommodate a growing city.
