Grief counselors will be on hand again today at the CAM High School in the Cass County community of Anita, as the students and staff struggle to cope with the death of a student Friday morning from severe brain injuries he suffered April 4th, during a head-on collision north of Massena.

Jennifer and Mike Olsen, the parents of 17-year old Cody Olsen, took their son off of life support Thursday night per his wishes. CAM High School Principal Dominic Geigerich said counselors will be on-hand throughout the weekend to help those who knew the teen process and deal with his death.

Geigerich says the students and staff are understandably upset at the loss. Geigerich says Cody was a very likeable kid with a quiet presence and an infectious smile, and students and staff are "taking it pretty hard." Geigerich says Cody — who was a Junior at CAM — loved football. He says everything Cody did revolved around football, and although he played some other sports, he loved football.

Olsen never recovered fully recovered from his injuries following the head-on crash in dense fog between the small pickup he was driving and a full-size truck on Highway 148. Geigerich says there were glimmers of hope everyone held onto, that he might pull through.

Geigerich says everyone saw some signs of hope and were praying that things would turn out differently. Geigerich says he will personally miss Cody, a young man he grew to know over the past three years. The funeral for Cody Olsen will be held 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, April 22nd, at the CAM Middle School in Massena.
