FAA investigating plane crash in Eastern Iowa

The Federal Aviation Administration has been called to investigate the crash of a small plane in eastern Iowa.  Authorities a 1971 single-engine Cessna went down in a field Sunday night about five miles from the Eastern Iowa Airport in Cedar Rapids.

Two people were injured. They’re identified as the pilot, 53-year-old Gilbert Leathers of Cedar Rapids, and a passenger, 41-year-old Anne Youngblut of Hudson. The Linn County Sheriff’s office says both were taken to a Cedar Rapids hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Investigators say Leathers was trying to make an emergency landing in the field when the nose wheel sank into the soft ground, causing the plane to flip over.
