The Morningside baseball team is preparing for the NAIA regionals after winning the Great Plains Conference tournament title over the weekend in Hastings, Nebraska. Morningside beat Dakota Wesleyan 6-4 in the championship game.

Mustang’s coach Jim Scholten feels his team is peaking at the right time, playing some of their best ball of the year. Scholten says they try to set up the schedule to peak at the right time, but that doesn’t always happen.

Scholten says the pitching staff came through in some critical situations. He says the strength of the team is probably the bullpen and the strong arms they have there. The Mustangs open the Region three tournament on Wednesday in Mayville, North Dakota.

Scholten says it’s a short turnaround, but they hope to take the momentum from last weekend and keep it going. Briar Cliff and Northwestern College are also part of the field.
