New Grinnell football coach ready to take over

May 8, 2008 By admin

New Grinnell College football coach Max Hawsey is getting settled in his new surroundings. Hawsey was hired in December to take over the Pioneers’ program after serving five years as the offensive co-ordinator at Colorado College.

Grinnell won just one game in 2007 but Hawsey says he is used to being part of rebuilding efforts. He took over a program that had only won one game in 2002 and turned it around so they went from average 200 yards of offense to average 400. The program eventually got up to 5-5.

Hawsey replaces Greg Wallace, who resigned after 20 years at the helm. Hawsey says his philosophy is to be a teacher and an educator and plans to teach them all aspects of the game. He says he also wants to win football games and will do that by teaching the fundamentals and running an exciting offense.

Hawsey says he has been on the job long enough to know the cupboard is not bare. They are only losing five players and have several players back he says are hungry to win some games.
