Authorities hope to make more arrests soon in a widespread identity theft case straddling the Iowa/Nebraska border. Two people were arrested near Omaha last week with boxloads of evidence. Saunders County (Nebraska) Sheriff Kevin Stuckenholtz says 27-year-old Sarah Maxwell and 29-year-old Eric Jordan are charged in what he calls a "sophisticated" I.D. theft ring.

The sheriff says, "They had devices in their vehicle that allowed them to duplicate copy and make fake identification." Stukenholtz says law officers found thousands of pieces of mail, washed checks and other items used to make fake I-Ds. He says Maxwell and Jordan likely weren’t acting alone.

He says: "We believe there are more parties involved. We’re not sure how those parties are connected with other jurisdictions and that’s why we’re working with other officers." The sheriff says while the suspects were caught in Saunders County, the victims were from all over the region, on both sides of the Missouri River.

He says, "The victims are not connected in any way that we’ve seen so far but we have correspondence from Council Bluffs, Bellevue, Ralston, Papillion, all over Douglas County and Sarpy County." Sheriff Stukenholtz says the two suspects face a number of charges. The charges include: possession of stolen property, possession of methamphetamine and numerous felonies for tampering with U.S. Postal Service mail. Stukenholtz says more arrests are pending but could not elaborate.
