Power strip blamed for fatal Waterloo fire

May 19, 2008 By admin

Officials have released the more information about a fatal house fire in Waterloo over the weekend. Officials with Waterloo Fire Rescue say a shorted out power strip sparked the weekend fire that killed 3-year-old Grantley Young.

The child’s body was found inside the burning home on the city’s east side late Saturday night. The one-story structure was completely engulfed with flames shooting from the windows when firefighters at the scene. A man at the house, 39-year-old Rodney Young, suffered burns in the fire and was taken to University Hospitals in Iowa City for treatment. He remains hospitalized, but his condition isn’t being released.

Two other people — an adult woman and a baby girl — escaped from the burning home uninjured.
