Among teams to repeat as champions at this years state co-ed track and field championships were the North Tama Redhawks, racking up 110 points on their way to their third straight state 1-A girls track title.
North Tama Coach Kent Hanser says the kids he’s had a chance to work with are "amazing individuals." Seniors Brooke and Blaire Dinsdale combined for 16 state titles in their high school career. Hanser says he’s excited for them to go on to college and learn from someone who knows more than he does.
Benton Community placed third in the 4-by-400 relay, enough to get by Mount Vernon and claim their second straight class 3-A girls title. The Bobcats paced by sprinter Callan Jacobson who anchored the winning 4-by-100 and 4-by-200 relay teams and won the 100 and 200:
Head Coach Marty Thomas says she had a great weekend, and the rest of the team followed her lead and allow them to do so well. Thomas said the success of the season was a snowball effect. He says once they had one good meet, they just continued to run better and better.
North Polk claimed the girl’s 2A title while Iowa City West was the 4A champ. On the boys’ side, Pleasant Valley is the champ in 4A. Other boy’s champs were Cedar Rapids Xavier in 3A, Mid-Prairie in 2A and West Hancock in 1A.
