Three-year-old dies in Waterloo fire

May 19, 2008 By admin

Officials are investigating a weekend house fire that claimed the life of a Waterloo toddler and sent a man to the hospital. The fire broke out around 10:30 Saturday night in a home on the city’s east side. When firefighters arrived, the structure was totally engulfed with flames shooting from the windows.

Police say officers found a three-year-old boy dead inside the home and a man with severe burns to his body. A woman and a baby escaped the burning home unharmed. The injured man was taken to a local hospital then airlifted to University Hospitals in Iowa City. Officials there aren’t releasing his condition. Authorities haven’t released any names. Investigators are trying to determine the cause.
