Hoiberg has great interest in NBA lottery

May 20, 2008 By admin

Former Iowa State star Fred Hoiberg will be watching tonight’s NBA Draft Lottery with special interest. The Ames native is an assistant general manager for the Minnesota Timberwolves and they are one of the teams hoping for an early pick in next month’s draft.

Hoiberg says he’s excited to know where they are going to pick and he says they’ve been going around in circles trying to schedule workouts for the picks as they don’t know the draft order. The Wolves have a 13.8% chance of getting the top pick through tonight’s lottery. Hoiberg says he likes the weighted lottery to determine the N-B-A Draft order.

He says there are a million different ways to do it and it becomes an exciting opportunity for the middle of the pack teams that need an impact player. While he is excited to see where the Timberwolves will be placed in the draft he would rather they not be part of the lottery, again.

Hoiberg says hopefully they can get a top player that can help them with the rebuilding process, so they are not in the lottery again. The NBA Draft will be on June 26th.
