Decorah doctor allowed to keep practicing medicine

May 22, 2008 By admin

A prominent northeast Iowa doctor who faced criminal charges a few months ago will be able to continue practicing medicine. The former chief medical officer at Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah will be allowed to keep his medical license.

Dr. David Heine was placed on three years probation this week by the Iowa Board of Medicine. The board charged Heine with engaging in unprofessional conduct in March after he pleaded guilty in February to misdemeanor trespassing and theft charges related to incidents at southern Minnesota high schools.

The board said Heine had completed a comprehensive evaluation and he does not pose an immediate threat to patients. Heine was issued a public reprimand by the board and was also fined $2,500.
