Authorities say a boat carrying more than a half-dozen people sank a flooded waterway near Ottumwa last night. They were on the swollen Des Moines River when the boat sank near a railroad bridge.
Four people were able to swim ashore but the other three had to be rescued. Two rescue boats also sank during the effort.
