Flood damaged items are piling up in towns all across Iowa. In northern Iowa, the city administrator for Mason City, Brent Trout says clean-up efforts are in full swing. He says it’s going to be a long process, as he’s driven through all parts of town, seeing large amounts of debris that will need to be pulled from the curb and taken to the landfill.

Trout says city crews will pick up flood damaged material when they can. He says they process will continue since people will continue to bring materials involved in the clean-up process to the curb through the next few weeks, with the city making a decision in the future to bring things to an end once it appears things have slowed down.

Trout is urging people to not put out items if they weren’t damaged by the flood. "What we already have is plenty," Trout says. He asks that people in second-story apartments that have large items to dispose of are asked to wait until later.

Trout says the city is not requiring the garbage stickers it normally requires for large items to be placed on the flood-damaged debris.
