Flooding has some impact on Iowa Games venues

June 19, 2008 By admin

Flooding in Des Moines and Iowa City has brought about site changes for two of this weekend’s regional tournaments for men’s open basketball at the Iowa Games. Executive director Jim Hallihan says he was so concerned about the situation in both cities he almost forgot to check to see if they needed to alter the sites.

Hallihan says they were so worried about the things going on that he didn’t think about the impact on the games. Hallihan says after things go worse, they started thinking about moving venues. He says they are moving the basketball regional from North High School to A-I-B.

The regional in Iowa City was to be held at the University of Iowa fieldhouse but has been moved to North Central Junior High in North Liberty. Hallihan says it’s a really good gym for this use.

There was also supposed to be a regional in Waverly but Hallihan says not enough teams registered.
