Mt. Pleasant hosts Gus Macker basketball tournament

June 26, 2008 By admin

More than 600 basketball players are expected on the streets of Mount Pleasant in August when the city hosts The Gus Macker three-on-three tournaments. Eric Rawson of the Henry County Convention and Visitor’s Bureau says the tournament is for all ages and all skill levels.

Rawson says you get a questionnaire as you register for the tournament to get an idea of your skill level, and they team you up with people who have the same skills. He says they go from the very young to people who’re 60 years old.

Rawson says the tournament is held on the streets of downtown Mount Pleasant. They have 16 half courts for the the 3-on-3 games. Rawson says the tournament always draws teams some several different states. He says their location in Southeast Iowa puts them at a crossroads of a couple of highways and makes it easier to draw teams from the tri-state area, and last year they had teams from 7 different states.

Rawson says the mail-in registration deadline is July 11th and teams can register on-line through July 14th. You can call 800-4521-4282 or you can register on-line at the Macker website .

The tournament is August second and third.
