High school baseball player collapses and dies

July 8, 2008 By admin

A 16-year-old high school athlete from the Ottumwa area died Monday. The Cardinal Community School District in the southeast Iowa town of Eldon says a member of the baseball team, Jordan Johnson, collapsed during a light workout Monday afternoon.

Paramedics were called and Johnson was rushed to the Ottumwa Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead. An autopsy is planned. Grief counselors and a crisis team will be available to anyone, students or adults, who want to talk about the death.
