Congressman Leonard Boswell underwent surgery Wednesday, but his staff is releasing few details. Boswell’s chief of staff issued a statement late Wednesday evening, saying the 74-year-old had surgery "to have a revision from his previous surgery" three years ago.

Back in 2005, Boswell had a non-cancerous growth removed from his abdomen. Boswell aide Susan McAvoy called this week’s surgery a success and she said the congressman was resting comfortably with his family.  McAvoy used words like "soon" and "near future" to describe when Boswell might return to work.

Boswell, a former state senator who was elected to the U.S. House in 1996, is seeking re-election to congress.  Boswell won a Democratic primary fight on June 3, defeating challenger Ed Fallon.  Boswell faces Republican Kim Schmett in November’s election.

There’s no mention of Boswell’s surgery on his campaign website, or on Boswell’s congressional website.
