New UNI track coach looks to continue tradition

July 9, 2008 By admin

Travis Goepfert looks to carry on a tradition his predecessor built. Geopfert was introduced as the new track and field head coach at the University of Northern Iowa. Goepfert says it is a terrific opportunity to take over the program at his alma mater and a place he truly believes in.

Goepfert competed for the Panthers and spent the last five years as an assistant coach under Chris Bucknam, who resigned to become the new head coach at Arkansas. Goepfert says Bucknam has done amazing things in 30 years and says he wouldn’t be where he is without Bucknam.

Bucknam led the Panthers to a seventh place finish at the NCAA indoor meet this past season and UNI was 11th at the outdoor championships. Goepfert says there are high expectations and he realizes that and appreciates it and says the attitude will not change.
