Wright County called state’s cleanest

July 11, 2008 By admin

Wright County received a special honor from Iowa Agricultural Secretary Bill Northey on Thursday at the courthouse in Clarion. The secretary presented county officials a plaque honoring Wright County as the Cleanest County in Iowa.

Earlier this year a contest was held sponsored by the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship and the Ames base Our Iowa magazine. Wright County came up the winner. The effort was made possible through the help of 121 volunteers cleaning road ditches all over the county this year.

Many of the volunteers were in attendance at yesterday’s ceremony held on the courthouse steps. Secretary Northey is hopeful that the trend will continue with volunteer efforts in cleaning up Iowa’s ditches and showing pride in the state.
