Zach Johnson shoots 69 in first round of John Deere Classic

July 11, 2008 By admin

The first round at the John Deere Classic near the Quad Cities is in the books. Charlie Wi and Ken Duke each shot a 64 to share a one shot lead after day one.

Zach Johnson was two under after an opening round of 69. It was his first trip back to the area since massive flooding in his home town of Cedar Rapids. Johnson says he was proud of the way Iowans responded.

Johnson says he’s heard a lot of stories about what happened after the flooding, and says Iowans didn’t sit around and wait for the government. Johnson says the volunteer spirit is evident at the tournament, as he says there are all kinds of volunteers helping out.
