Authorities in the small southwest Iowa town of Afton are following up on a possible lead into another attempted child abduction in Iowa. This time, it was a five-year-old girl.

Afton Police Chief John Coulter says the girl was in the care of a babysitter at the time of the incident. The unidentified girl was apparently trying to capture her pet dog after it had escaped from a fenced-in area of their yard. The five-year-old later told her babysitter that a man had approached her while she was outside and asked if she wanted to get into his car and go for a ride, but she refused.

The babysitter told the girl’s parents when they got home and the parents then called authorities. The young girl describes the suspect as a young, white male with ear-length blond hair. The five-year-old girl says the car is "boxy," rusty, and brown in color. Authorities are asking the public to be on alert and aware of odd behavior.
