Class 2A baseball continues Saturday

Defending state champion and top-ranked Cherokee rallied from a 3-0 deficit — scoring six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning — to defeat Okoboji 7-3 in a Class 2A state tournament quarterfinal matchup at Principal Park Saturday.

Logan Potter fired a two-hitter and struck out nine to lead eighth-ranked Solon past Waterloo Columbus Catholic 3-0 Saturday afternoon in a Class 2A first-round game.

Top-seeded Davenport Assumption erupted for 11 runs in one inning en route to a 14-0 victory over Pleasantville in the opening round of the Class 2A state baseball tournament at Principal Park Friday.

St. Ansgar scored six runs in the top of the first inning and held on to hand 10th-ranked Interstate 35 its first loss of the season 11-5 Friday afternoon in a Class 2A first-round game at Principal Park.
