Kyle Ruehle’s bases loaded two run single in the bottom of the fifth snapped a two all tie as top ranked Cherokee downed eighth rated Solon 6-2 in the 2A semifinals. The Braves will bid for their second consecutive title against a Davenport Assumption team they beat in the finals last year. Ruehle says they set goals all season and the last one is to win the state title.

Solon coach Keith McSweeney says three errors hurt their cause, he says a pitcher has to have the guys behind him when he is battling, and unfortunately they didn’t get the support they needed.

Fifth ranked Don Bosco scored four runs in the first and three more in the second enroute to a 7-4 win over number four Mason City Newman and a spot in the 1A title game.

The Dons had to hold off a rally by Newman which came back with three runs in the third and another in the fourth. Don Bosco is 30-3 while Newman ends the season with a record of 33-7.

North Sentral Kossuth downed Iowa Mennonite 6-0 to advance to the title game to face Don Bosco.
