Funeral held for Iowa Army nurse

July 30, 2008 By admin

A full military funeral for Second Lieutenant Holley Wimunc was held Tuesday in her hometown of Dubuque. The body of the 24-year-old Army nurse was found murdered in North Carolina earlier this month.

At the service, family friend Tim Kraemer fondly remembered the Dubuque Hempstead graduate. Kraemer says, "She walked into the room, she lit up the room. It’s just amazing her outgoing personality." Wimunc’s estranged husband John, a Marine who’s based in North Carolina, is charged with first-degree murder in the slaying, along with a second Marine.

Holley Wimunc had two children from a previous marriage. Both children are with their biological father.
