Two of the Democrats who represent Iowa in congress announced this weekend that the top Democrat in the U.S. House would visit flood-damaged communities in Iowa next month.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, a Democrat from California, is due to visit Iowa on September 8th. Pelosi will visit Parkersburg, which was hit by a tornado in late May, and other eastern Iowa cities that were flooded in June.

Republicans have criticized Democrats, especially Pelosi, for adjourning the House in late July without taking action on a disaster relief package for Iowa. Congressman Dave Loebsack, a Democrat from Mount Vernon, says the federal government needs to provide "significantly more" disaster relief. He says Pelosi will see "firsthand" the extent of storm damage. Congressman Bruce Braley, a Democrat from waterloo, says Pelosi has promised she’ll support "additional disaster relief funding."

Braley and Loebsack released statements on Saturday, announcing Pelosi’s upcoming visit to Iowa.
