Animal control officers are getting more calls about winged invaders in homes as we hit the fall season. In Sioux City, animal control officer Stephen Frahm says they can get as man as one dozen bat calls in one night. He says August and September are the two biggest months for bat problems as the bats look for a place to start their hibernation.

Frahm says bats can get into a home through a hole that is as small as a dime. Frahm says anything a bat can stick its head through, they can pull the rest of their body through. Frahm says the animals will most often get into a home’s attic.

Frahm says the bats usually stay on the upper level of homes, but they can be found in basements as well. Frahm says if you find a bat in your home, you should call your local animal control office.
