The Burlington City Council is discussing what to do about crime in their southeast Iowa town. This woman expressed her opinion at the council’s meeting last night. "Everybody feels the same that I do, the crime in Burlington is really gett’in bad." Mayor pro-tem Mack Murray responded to her comments.

"When I grew up in Burlington, I never heard about some of this stuff. You’ve always had drugs and things, that’s no secret, now it’s becoming violent. And it’s bring what was in the big cities to the small communities, and Burlington’s not alone," Murray says. Councilman Gary Thomas offered this view.

"You’ve got a lot of things working against us as a community and as a country, jobs, poverty teenage pregnancy, single parent homes, just a disintegration of morals," Thomas says. The council will take up the matter again at it’s regular work session next week.
