The Wright County Sheriff’s Office and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation are investigating the deaths of two hunters. A preliminary investigation shows the deaths of the two hunters were the result of an accidental shooting and a suicide.

At about 10 o’clock Thursday morning, law enforcement authorities were notified that a hunter had accidentally shot his hunting partner in an area west of Woolstock in Wright County. Upon arrival authorities were met by the hunter who led them to the heavily wooded area where the accidental shooting had occurred.

While officers were attempting to locate the first victim, the second hunter died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Officers were close by when the second shooting took place. No shots were fired by the officers. At this time there is no indication of foul play. Both individuals have been identified and names are being withheld until relatives have been notified.
