DNR looking to fill jobs in its Green Iowa AmeriCorps

September 20, 2008 By admin

The Green Iowa AmeriCorps program of the Department of Natural Resources is looking for six people to lead Iowa’s rebuilding green efforts for the next year. Tricia Rummer oversees the program. Rummer says they’re looking to fill six full-time positions with people who would be willing to serve as team leaders and rebuild communities in an energy efficient way. Rummer says you need some basic qualifications.

She says you need basic knowledge in energy efficiency, but mainly "a spirit for service" along with the ability to recruit and train volunteers in working with people to improve the energy efficiency of their homes. There will be two Iowa Green Corps teams with one located in Linn and Johnson counties, and the other team will serve in Black Hawk, Bremer (Bree’mur) and Butler counties. These are the hardest hit disaster areas, and will get the first help.

The six full-time members will serve as the team leaders as they recruit for people to fill six-month and three-month positions. For more information on all the positions, call Rummer at 515-281-4539 or go to the D-N-R’s website   and click on the volunteer link.
