Northwestern coach Pat Fitzgerald says the Wildcats will need to respond to the physical challenge offered by the Iowa Hawkeyes when the teams open the Big Ten race in Iowa City. The Wildcats enter league play with a 4-0 record.

Fitzgerald says Iowa is one of the more physical teams in the conference on both sides of the ball. Fitzgerald says this will be their toughest test by far going on the road to Iowa City. He says they’re happy to be where they’re at, but encouraged to know they haven’t played their best football yet.

Fitzgerald says one of the reasons for their quick start is their play on special teams. He says you have to buy into being a great special teams player, as everyone wants to score touchdowns and make sacks, but getting them to block is tougher.

Fitzgerald says there is still plenty of room for improvement as he says they’ve played well enough to win without playing great yet.
